Father's Day

I received my monthly Reader’s Digest today. The Editor wrote about father’s role in kids’ life – “Us dads are here to challenge our kids, show them different ways of tackling problems, and give them another outlook on life.” It is very very true. I have two young toddlers of my own. I knew what it is all about. DH has a different ways of handling the kids. While I was away from home, they went to the furthest playground park from our house, eat ice cream at night, and slept in late. DH gave them bath pool in the bathroom, let them climb on the highest monkey bar and play snow during a freezing night. They do adventurous things with their fathers, things that I was afraid to take on because I always feel it was not safe for them. They need to learn real thing in life. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years away from my father. I was sent to a boarding school far from my hometown. Although, I spent less time with my dad, one thing that I remember vividly was that, he will do whatever it takes to make sure I am safe and sound coming home and going back to school. He thought me to be independent, but still the safety is first on his list.

On Father’s Day eve, I called my dad and thanked him for those sacrifices and hard work he had gone through bringing up us, to make us someone we are today. I hope my daughters will do the same for their father when the time comes. Happy Father’s Day to all Fathers in this world!
