Defense..

I did it once, and I did it again. But this time, I felt I was more prepared with the answers because I knew my stuff. It really helps when your audience does not know much about what you are doing. Hehe. This morning I had my thesis proposal defense for the research project I am doing. I always use ‘we’ in my presentation but somehow, one of the panels asked me ‘why you keep saying ‘we’, not I? I was stunned. In my office, we have been always reminded to speak for the team not ourselves, because we work in a team. I am not doing the work on my own. I have a team. It was just a coincidence that I am the main researcher, but I have assistance from people in Environment, my technicians and my collaborators. But I am part of the team and I did the work together. I checked the results, the equipment etc. It was just too awkward to use first person in the presentation. I ended up using ‘we’ throughout the session. Anyway, despite of setbacks here and there as the panels are not well verse in technical terms involved in the study, the session was fine. My supervisor said it was ok, I did not need to resit again for re-defense. Alhamdulillah.

I can rest tonight, and perhaps tomorrow I can ask them to postpone the meeting as I need more time to finish up the second report. Many things pending and I am having a bad headache. The room is too cold! Macam peti sejuk lah..
